Questions

How high can people hear?

Young people usually hear up to 17 to 20 kHz. The upper limit drops with age, to around 12 kHz by the 50s for many people.

Should I use headphones?

Yes. Headphones let you test each ear on its own, and many laptop and phone speakers can't play tones above 15 to 16 kHz anyway.

Is this a medical hearing test?

No. It shows the highest tone your ears and device reach, not how well you hear speech. See a hearing specialist if you notice hearing loss.

Why is my result lower than my age band?

A low volume, background noise or a device that can't play high tones all lower the result. Try again with headphones in a quiet room.
