Output format

The JPG to PNG converter changes JPG photos into the PNG format. It is for when a design program, a document or a site wants PNG, or when you want a copy you can edit later without further loss.

The conversion happens in your browser. The pictures are not sent to a server. Several files can be added at once.

How to use

  1. Drop the JPG files on the page or pick them with the Choose images button. Up to 50 files are accepted.
  2. Output format comes set to PNG. Since PNG is lossless, no Quality setting appears.
  3. Conversion starts right away. Each row shows the result and size of its file.
  4. Press Download on a row to take one, or Download all to take everything.
  5. If needed, use Remove to take out a file, Add to bring in more, or Clear to start again.
  6. On the same page you can also switch the output format to JPG or WebP.

When it helps

PNG gives cleaner results than JPG for logos, screenshots and graphics with text. A common workflow is to turn a JPG logo into PNG before placing it in another design, then remove its background, because JPG cannot be transparent and PNG can.

Some software and print services ask for PNG too. If you want a format that does not lose quality at every save, using PNG during editing and exporting to JPG or WebP at the end makes sense.

Tips

  • JPG has already lost detail, and PNG cannot bring it back. PNG only prevents further loss from here on.
  • Photos often grow several times larger as PNG. For a smaller file choose WebP or leave it as JPG.
  • PNG files carry no EXIF data, so details such as location are not left in the file. Colours are converted to sRGB.
  • This does not make the background transparent. That needs separate editing.
  • If the files are very large or numerous, processing can take a few seconds.

Questions

How do I convert JPG to PNG?

Drop your JPG files on the page or choose them. They are converted to PNG at once, and you can download them one by one or all together as a ZIP.

Does JPG to PNG improve the quality?

No. A JPG has already lost detail and PNG cannot bring it back. PNG just stores the picture as it is, without losing anything more.

Why is the PNG so much bigger than the JPG?

PNG keeps every pixel exactly, while JPG throws away fine detail to save space. Photos often become several times larger as PNG; for smaller files choose WebP or keep the JPG.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. The PNG has no EXIF data, and colors are converted to sRGB.
