Fills transparent areas.

PNG to JPG converts PNG images into JPG files, which are usually much smaller. That matters when a website, an e-mail or a form rejects large files, or when a folder of screenshots is eating up space. Designers, shop owners, students and anyone who sends photos or screenshots around will run into it.

You can add several images at once, and any common image format is accepted, not only PNG. Each file is listed with its size before and after, so you can see what you saved. The conversion happens in your browser and the files stay on your device.

How to use

  1. Drop your PNG files on the page or press Choose images. Up to 50 images are taken at once, and Add lets you put in more later.
  2. Move the Quality slider if you want a smaller or a cleaner file. The number next to it goes from 10 to 100.
  3. Check the Background colour. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas of a PNG are filled with this colour, and it is white at first. Click the swatch to pick another.
  4. Watch the list. Each row shows the file with its original size, an arrow and the new size, and the status line counts the converted images.
  5. Press Save on a row for one file, or Download all to get everything together in a ZIP. Share appears on devices that can share files.
  6. Clear empties the list, and the small remove button on a row drops a single file.

When it helps

A logo exported with a transparent background is perfect as a PNG, but a photo or a screenshot saved as PNG can be several times larger than it needs to be. Converting those to JPG helps when you upload documents to a job portal or a public service site, attach photos to a mail that has a size limit, or put product pictures on a marketplace listing.

It also saves you from the situation where a system accepts only .jpg. Instead of installing an editor to re-save every file, you drop them in, adjust nothing, and download the ZIP.

Tips

  • Keep sharp text, line art and flat graphics as PNG if you can. They look fuzzier as JPG, and photos are what JPG does well.
  • Choose a background that suits where the image will be used. A logo with a transparent edge that goes onto a dark page needs a dark fill, not the default white.
  • Re-encoding removes EXIF data, including a photo's location, and converts the colours to sRGB.
  • Very large images may be scaled down to the size limit of the format. The row says so with the new width and height.
  • A file the tool cannot read is marked on its row and does not stop the others.

Questions

How do I convert PNG to JPG?

Drop your PNG files on the page or choose them. They are converted to JPG at once, and you can download them one by one or all together as a ZIP.

What happens to transparent areas?

JPG cannot be transparent, so those areas are filled with a color. White is the default; pick another one under Background.

Does converting PNG to JPG reduce quality?

A little, because JPG is lossy. At the default quality of 90 photos look the same, but sharp text and flat graphics can show some fuzz and are better kept as PNG.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and nothing is sent to a server. Re-encoding also removes EXIF data and converts colors to sRGB.
