If a photo opens sideways on your computer, or a scanned page comes out upside down, this tool turns it the right way and saves it as a new file. It rotates 90 degrees left or right, turns 180 degrees, and mirrors horizontally or vertically.
You can load up to 50 files in one go, which makes it useful for a whole set of event photos, product shots for a listing, or pictures of class notes. The files stay in the browser and are not sent anywhere.
How to use
- Drop the images on the page or press 'Choose images'. JPG, PNG, WebP and HEIC are accepted.
- Under each file name in the list are its own buttons: 'Rotate left', 'Rotate right', 'Rotate 180°', 'Flip horizontal' and 'Flip vertical'. They change only that image.
- To turn everything the same way, use the buttons with the same names under 'All files'.
- Each file shows what was done to it, for example 'Rotated right'. If you turned something the wrong way, 'Reset' undoes the changes.
- 'Add' brings in more images, 'Remove' drops one, and 'Clear' empties the list. When you are ready press 'Download' for a single file or 'Download all' for several; several files arrive as a zip.
When it helps
The most common case is a phone photo that looks sideways in another program. Cameras store the orientation as a flag inside the file and some apps ignore it. When you rotate and save here, the picture is stored the right way up and no longer depends on that flag.
If you are uploading product photos to a marketplace, straightening a batch beforehand saves fiddling later. The same goes for photos of paperwork you need to attach to an application. Mirroring helps when a picture came out reversed, or when you want a symmetrical version of an image.
Tips
- Files you did not change are returned exactly as they were. Only the ones you turned are re-saved.
- JPG and WebP are re-encoded, so there is a very small quality loss. PNG stays lossless.
- EXIF data such as the location is removed from the output. That is useful before sharing, but keep the original if you need the date or camera details.
- Very large files can hit the browser's size limit. If that happens, work in smaller groups.
- If you add more than 50 files, only the first 50 are taken and a notice tells you so.
